Textiles and Paper at Manchester Helps Tanzania Textiles

The School of Materials, Textiles and Paper, at Manchester University, will be supporting the initiatives of the Gatsby Charitable Foundation in establishing a programme to develop the infrastructure of the Tanzanian Textiles industry. Textile manufacturing in Africa has a long history producing world class products with flair, innovative designs, and quality.

However, as the textile industry evolves and becomes more competitive and increasingly multi-disciplinary through the use of new materials, it is vital that the commercial and educational sectors respond to this change.

Through this programme, the Universtity and The Gatsby Charitable Foundation can support the local industry with new technology, improved fashion marketing and targeted educational training. In establishing this platform for change, the industry will become more successful, not just benefiting the textiles industry, but also all Tanzanians,
