Future Textiles scoops SPARK Award

03/07/2008

Aidan Tracey, founder of Future Textiles Ltd in Alfreton, Derbyshire, is one of nine companies who received their TechniTex / MADE SPARK Awards at a presentation in London.

The ceremony, hosted by Lord Haskel, Hon. Chairman of TechniTex and Materials UK, was held in the Attlee Room of the House of Lords, Westminster, on Thursday, June 26th.

Future Textiles Ltd is a new start-up company which only began operating this year. Aidan Tracey, (seen here with Lord Haskel to his left and Brian McCarthy of TechniTex) who has 30 years experience in manufacturing knitwear products, identified the need for a heatable glove for patients suffering for Raynaud's disease. The disease is a disorder of the blood vessels which can affect fingers and also toes. The seamless glove, produced on a novel flat-bed knitting machine, incorporates electro-conductive pathways and heated zones which form an integral part of its structure. The glove can offer sufferers of the Raynaud phenomenon help by keeping hands warm and preventing severe skin irritation.

Other recipients of the 2008 SPARK Awards, sponsored by TechniTex and MADE (Materials and Design Exchange) - both networking groups within the Materials KTN, are:

DCS Designs, Scensive Ltd, B&H Liquid, Auxetix Ltd, TSG Associates, Smartlife, TexEng Software and Equip.
